Meredith Crawford came to her craft in a different way to most people: through a book. I discovered this and more about her when we talked about where her craftiness comes from.
Meredith is the designer and creator behind the awesome Sheepish Knitting & Crochet.
About two years ago, Meredith walked into a book store and purchased The Friday Night Knitting Club. Little did she know at the time that the book would change her world.
She loved the book so much that she went to the craft store, bought some needles and yarn, sat down in front of youtube and taught herself to knit. While learning to knit can sometimes be a frustrating experience, the benefits that came from it make it worth it.
Knitting came to Meredith at a tough time in her life, and gaining confidence through knitting really helped her through it in a way that she never expected. She never planned for knitting to be a part of her life but was the best thing that could have happened.
Creativity is like an old friend. It is something that will always be there for us when we need it. It will help us come through our toughest times and builds that confidence that we all need.
After knitting for a while, Meredith’s friends introduced her to Etsy and encouraged her to start selling there. She spent the summer knitting and listed some of her pieces in the fall, which lead to a really great winter. She is so grateful that they suggested it!
It’s that support that Meredith knows will always be there: Her friends and family can see the change that knitting has made to her life and are very willing to be a part of it.
There is something magic about handmade that you just don’t see with anything else.
For Meredith it is that two needles can change a string into something that is completely different. Something that has a texture and is warm. It is so rewarding to create and to take your craft to the next level.
It is the art of creating that makes handmade so important. It allows us control of what we are making and what impact we are having on the world, even in a tiny way.
From talking to Meredith, I realized that our craftiness can come from anywhere, even from a book. It can always be with us or can be the catalyst for the change that we have been searching for.
Do you feel that too?
