After 10 years of saying no to flying because of fear, I did it: I said YES and hopped a plane to Paris!
It all started with the purchase of a French travel magazine, which revived a somewhat-dismissed (I was afraid of flying, why bother?) dream of seeing the City of Light.
Then, through a gentle, “What if…”, I opened myself to the possibility of flying even a short flight just to get back in the air. I contemplated which cities might motivate me to take a longer one and there were no ifs, ands, or buts about it, Paris topped the list.
I followed a few Paris-related groups on Facebook just to keep it on my daily radar. I bought a large scrapbook sticker of the Eiffel Tower and pinned it to my office cork board, making the dream visible and tangible.
Finally, I simply stated that I would see Paris. I wasn’t sure when, but I knew I would.
All of this happened over two, three, maybe even five years.
The Universe and my astute husband were listening. Last Christmas, as a combo Christmas and 40th birthday gift, my husband offered me a flight itinerary for two weeks in Paris. He knew of my fear of flying and left me the option of saying no.
I knew it was time to say yes and as a result, these past few weeks have been more than I ever could have imagined.
After seeing it vicariously through others’, I saw Paris with my own eyes. If I didn’t have the 2600 photos to prove it I almost wouldn’t believe it.
Sometimes our YESes need time to percolate gently in the background until they’re ready to come out, often yielding the sweetest results.
What are you slowly saying yes to?
