i'm skipping the traditional friday scout out post this morning to bring to you an artist, designer and author whose work is so fitting for Earth Day week, Betz White. with the release of her first book in 2007, Warm Fuzzies, Betz quickly (and maybe unwittingly) became a prominent voice advocating 'green' crafting. her just recently released second book, Sewing Green, continues her emphasis on the 3 Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) with projects demonstrating clever & easy ways to stitch yourself into the green with totebags, wallets, aprons, household items and gift wrapping (to name a few). whether she's refashioning the old into new or using innovative, green materials, Betz has a tremendous knack for rethinking the ordinary into the extraordinary.
she'll be at Spool in Center City Philadelphia tonight (friday, 4/24) from 5-8pm for a booksigning and small demo. she'll be there again tomorrow from 10-2pm for a bag-making class. spaces are limited – sign-up in advance.
*so excited to be meeting Betz in person today for an afternoon coffee.
