Getting to Know You is your introduction to our new Scoutie Girl contributors. We’ll be running these over the next few weeks. Today, enjoy getting to know more about Laura Simms!
Why do you DIY?
I DIY when I can’t find something I want, have a problem that no conventional method solves, want to test myself, or make something just for the sake of making something.
What are you most passionate about right now?
In my work as a creative coach, my heart skips a beat when a client takes even the smallest action towards creating the life and the creative work that she dreams about. Coaching is a kind of collaboration that I love, and being part of someone’s journey towards fulfillment is exhilarating.
What do you have in common with Scoutie Girl readers?
I’m into discovering subtle shifts in perspective that result in big aha moments. A turn of phrase or re-framing that puts something on it’s ear and changes my behavior and responses? That’s powerful stuff.
What would Scoutie Girl readers be surprised to know about you?
My first career, which I still pursue, is as an actor. It’s given me the incredible fortune to work with dynamic artists, meet my husband, make lifelong friends, tour much of the United States, perform in Italy and Romania, participate in an unofficial world-record breaking 70 hour improv show, go to final callbacks for Cirque du Soleil, work in television, and get my MFA at the unparalleled UC Irvine. This career has been my greatest source of adventure.
