Creative Heroes: C.S. Lewis on Friendship

C.S Lewis, author of the much-loved Chronicles of Narnia, is one of my creative heroes. I admire his ability to focus and mine his creative talent for all it was worth, leaving a mighty legacy of literature and other writings for the rest of us. I find his unrelenting prolificacy inspirational, and am equally fascinated by his journey to faith.

I love his quote on friendship:

Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: “What! You too? I thought that no one but myself…”

― C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

There is a wash of recognition when you share something about yourself with another and they say, “Yeah, me too.”

Oh, you’re a believer who rocks synchronicity? Me too!

Oh, you hated avocado as a kid, and now it’s in your top five fave foods? Me too!

Oh, you missed the flight home because you totally mixed up the arrival and departure times? Me too!

Oh, you make your own nut milk, red cabbage sauerkraut, and bone broth? Me too!

Oh, you used your best doll’s blanket to make a home for a stray cat? Me too!

Oh, you’ve walked bang smack into a lamp post while waving goodbye? Me too!

Oh, you love stripes, jumpsuits, and leathery brown boots? Me too!

Oh, you like the mouth-slapping taste of lemons and limes ? Me too!

Oh, you wrote an “Art of” book? Me too!

Oh, you practice Bikram yoga? Me too! (bumped into former colleague in class today!)

Which is your most memorable “me too!” moment? Please share!
