2ReVert makes amazing jewelry pieces out of 100% post-consumer recycled skateboards. How rocking is this!!!??? Way back in the day I loved skateboarders, and I think I may have even worn a "Skate or Die" t-shirt! There is nothing cooler than thrashing and I love that these artists are making beautiful things from old decks!
I asked them to tell us a bit about their cool shop and unique business.
Can you describe yr art and process? Tell us a bit about yrself?
2ReVert is a husband/wife team that creates jewelry and housewares out of 100% post-consumer recycled skateboard decks. We have been selling on Etsy for over a year now, and Jeff works full-time for 2ReVert. Jann has a full-time job in administration at a recycling processing facility, and works 2ReVert in many of her spare hours. Our process starts with the old, beaten up, broken boards, that we then design, cut, and sand till our hands hurt. We use only non-toxic, vegan friendly gloss, and all our shipping packages are recycled and recyclable. We really look for the best eco-friendly solution for everything.
So- Can you just tell me a few things that inspire you?
New broken decks that we’ve never seen before. It’s always interesting to see what has been written on them, to touch the deep grooves of its past life and to see what interesting piece we can make out of it. The process always starts with that broken deck.
I want to know some things about what is it really like to be a working artist…the good and the bad? What are the three top things you wish you would have known before you started this art/etsy journey?
Oooohh, this one’s hard, let’s start with the good. It’s so nice to have Jeff home every night (he used to work shift-work), it’s nice to have flexible time, and it’s rewarding to hear sweet things from customers, and have repeat customers. The bad… well of course the ups and downs with sales, it’s not like a normal job that you get paid the same every week all year long, and of course the age-old feeling that working for yourself is a constant… 2ReVert is always there, peeking at us while we watch TV for a minute. 😉
Top three things we wish we had known prior to this… hmmm… 1. had we known that we really enjoy selling online, and really do not like selling at craft fairs, we could have saved ourselves a lot of money, time and effort. 2. We wish we had had a better understanding of the proper way to approach retail stores about wholesale orders, this took some time getting used to. 3. Never cheap out on tools… it’s always more expensive in the long run if you do!
Who would you love to meet online?
We have a couple of great customers that are sisters, and they are so unique sounding… we would LOVE to meet them (Cindy & Cat) 😉
