Acute How-To: Homemade Beauty Products

There are so many amazing spa-esque beauty products on the market, but some can be pretty pricey. Making your own is as easy as rummaging around your kitchen for a few simple and all natural ingredients.

Two of my favorite homemade products are a sugar scrub and a yogurt facemask. These recipes are super simple, incorporate easy to find, natural ingredients, and will leave your skin feeling so soft and refreshed.

What you will need:

  • Sugar
  • Grape seed oil
  • Lemon {or orange}
  • Plain Greek style yogurt
  • Oatmeal
  • Honey
  • Strawberries

 Sugar Body Scrub:

In a jar or plastic container, mix together a half cup of grape seed oil and a cup of sugar. You want the mixture to the same consistency of wet sand.

Zest one lemon and add the zest to the jar. In order to zest a lemon, use a zester or cheese grater to grate the yellow part of the peel off the lemon. The zest is full of essential oils and has an amazing aroma.

Leave the jar in your shower and give your skin an invigorating scrub a few times a week.

Yogurt Face Mask:

This recipe is almost too easy!

Add together a half cup of plain Greek yogurt, a teaspoon of honey, and a fourth cup of oats. Apply to clean, dry face and allow to set for 15 minutes.

Rinse your face and pat dry. The yogurt will leave your skin soft and refreshed.

If you need a face mask that also fights blemishes, add a few mashed strawberries to the mixture. Strawberries are a little acidic, which will help to naturally clear up any blemishes.

You can use the grapeseed oil as a carrier oil right for preservation of the product you are making. Like I wanna make hair products and somebody told me to use something like rosemary oil. Would grapeseed oil be kinda the same?

  2. Emily says:

You can squeeze some honey into a cup or bowl, heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds till warm and then slather it all over your face. Wait for it to cool and then wash it off and you face will be so soft!

  3. i can’t wait to try this! homemade skincare is much healthier for our skin than anything purchased at a “drug”store.

one of my favorite facial scrubs is a mixture of olive oil and brown sugar. great for removing dead, lackluster skin and the oil leaves your skin soft as a baby’s tush!

I make a very similar sugar scrub and love it – you can use olive oil, sweet almond oil, as well as others for variety. I’ve never used lemon zest, but I’ll definitely try that for my next batch.
