This is a great post and so very true. Sometimes I think we build these little routines for ourselves and we just stay in them without realizing that it’s completely in our control to do differently.

I love the idea of letting go of making the right choice and just choosing something. Indecision hampers creativity.

Chantelle – “indecision hampers creativity” – well put! And Sarah, don’t you feel like sometimes, changing a routine is exactly what the doctor ordered to help get your creative juices flowing? When I used to drive to work sometimes I’d take a different route home just for a change of scenery, and it was such a pick me up… now, sometimes it takes working from a cafe (instead of my home office, or couch) to help me focus and write…

I love every bit of this, Tara! There are so many good reminders in here that I’m leaving this browser tab open so I can come back and read it again a few times so they really sink in!

A favorite trick that I was taught by a trans-personal psychologist is that when I notice I’m having a habitual response to something, like worry or anger, I put on a character that would react in exactly the opposite way.

Love this piece, Amanda. My favorite of the lessons is “be in the scene you want to be in.” There is so much power in that idea. We have a lot more influence in how our lives unfold than we realize. This simple statement from your class really helps us to embrace the influence we have over what we do with this one extraordinary life we have.

And thank you for introducing me to Scoutiegirl. What a great site!

Thanks Christa! It is indeed powerful. And Susan, I love the idea of using character to steer ourselves into better choices.
