You made some really great points, Aileen! Thanks for this post.

Today, I am going to cut out some time for daydreaming. Seems like a good day for it. :)

Fantastic post Aileen. This really gives me a lot to think about and I’m glad to hear that my constant daydreaming is actually a good thing! :D

Aileen – all of your growth tips are worth their weight in creative compost. I am a living example to the last tidbit about teaching. I taught art to K-8th grade students for 8 years, finally “retiring” to start my own art business and now, in addition to my business, teach art to children and adults out of my home. Almost all of my artistic growth started to take root during my teaching years as I was constantly learning about artists and coming up with art project ideas.
What a wonderful post – and you’ve just reinforced my decision to sign up for a plein air painting class.
    Many thanks!

Wow, jealousy can actually be a GOOD thing! You are so right Aileen, thanks for this new way of looking at a feeling I usually feel so guilty about!

This is a really great piece! I am a total know-it-all really. I don’t like to admit it, but I tend to read things and thing things like “that’s nice, but I already knew that.” It is great to see such simple ideas put into words like this, especially ideas that are basic, but we don’t really think about them. The idea of being inspired by jealousy is very clever, I have just recently started to recognize jealousy as a tool. I have the problem of putting too many pots on to boil and right before I get successful with one area, I start to think that one of the others is more what I should be doing. It is SO frustrating! Total something shiny effect. So recently I sat down and realized that in order to figure out where I want to really go, I should look at whose experiences I really really covet. Not just who has a cool life or what other people think I am best at, but who has something like what I REALLY want? Now I can see more clearly where I truly want to go. For now ;)

Well written, I am passing this on…

Great article, Aileen. Daily Practice is the one that really resonates with me – I find that when I keep up daily, even just a little writing a day, I grow as an artist. But then when I let it slip away due to all those pesky To Do things, I start to lose my momentum.

You’re a great writer, in addition to being a gifted artist! Thanks for sharing what you know. It’s obviously working for you.

Thank you Aileen for sharing your advice! You could not be more right about jealousy. I recently felt jealous of my friend who works for a corporate company’s marketing department. I have a huge to do list and when she told me she had similar items on her list, I got jealous that she had a huge team to get them done in no time. But I got to say it put a fire under me to prioritize and get these goals accomplished.
