Ok. I love me some Linwood Avenue! Tiffin makes these amazing lamps that you will swoon over (and other goodies too)! I love her style and I need to find a room in my house for one of her romantic and gorgeous creations.

These vintage lamps just sing!
I asked her to talk with us a bit and here is what she had to say:
Can you describe yr art and process? Tell us a bit about yrself?
I am all over the place as an artist. I really can’t focus on one item which is why you will find various goodies at my shop. currently, I am obsessed with revitalizing vintage lamps and making creative shades to go with them. I love going to yard sales and finding that special piece. beautiful crystal lamps are often cast aside just because they have an old cord, and of course I can’t pass one up. I sit down every couple of months with all the cleaned glass parts I have salvaged and I start mixing and matching to create a new one of a kind lamp.
handmade items are important to me because they are such a great display of your style. you visit people’s houses and you see the same things over and over again. the same couch, the same lamp, nothing personal that says “i live here”. my lamps, shades, and other items add a touch of personality to a space. having a colored shade on a small crystal amp is like finding the perfect accessory for an outfit. it compliments your room.
So- Can you just tell me a few things that inspire you and how you work- yr process?
I keep up with clothing trends because I believe that my lamps and shades are fashion for your home. I also always have my nose in a book and I pull a lot of my inspiration out of the feelings the book gives me. I joke that one thing my work will always be is girly. I live with my husband and 2 sons, so I really use my business as a way to express my feminine side!
I typically work at night after the kids are in bed. I usually have so many ideas in my head that I don’t end up with any down time. it is always very hard for me to explain or pinpoint a process to creating my artwork. being able to understand balance and what patterns can be mixed with what is second nature to me. I visualize the finished product and my hands start moving.

I want to know some things about what is it really like to be a working artist…the good and the bad?
I love being able to show the world my point of view through my artwork. and I love being able to make someones home a more beautiful place. I don’t love that I can’t turn my mind off! when you are running a small craft business, you eat, sleep and drink your art.
What are the three top things you wish you would have known before you started this art/etsyjourney?
I wish I had a more realistic idea of how much time would be spent on the business end of my business. emails, branding, implementation, shipping – these are all things that take up my time when I could have been crafting and actually creating my product.
as far as etsy, I realized that to be noticed, you need to have activity in your shop at least once a day. it is often hard to find time to do this, but it makes all the difference in the amount of hits you get.
confidence is a very important part of your success as in artist and that is one thing I have always had. if I have a bad sales day at a craft show, I don’t get down and think that no one likes my product, I simply search for shows targeted to different people. if you produce the best product you possibly can, someone out there will appreciate it. it just may take time to find them!
